The Kitchen Remodel: Phase 17

With the last couple of weekends full of family things, there hasn't been a whole heck of a lot going on in the kitchen.  But I did finally make one of the big decisions I had been struggling with. And when I say struggling with, I mean obsessing over.

Lights.  Oh, the lights.  I love lights.  I love all kinds of lights.  Big lights, little lights.  Modern lights, farmhouse lights.  Clear glass lights, metal lights, wicker lights, wire lights.  Lights made out of repurposed things.  Lights, lights, and more lights.  You can check out my Pinterest Lighting board if you want a peek inside my obsession.

Here are just a few examples of lights I dream about.

One Light Rust Down Mini Pendant : SKU 7YAMK | Richardson Lighting

Vintage Barn Pendant in Weathered Zinc

Paxton Glass Single Pendants | Pottery Barn

PB Classic Pendant - Metal Bell | Pottery Barn

So I thought I had committed.  Clear glass shade with black accents and cord.  They're so pretty.  I have dozens of kitchen pictures pinned with pretty glass shades.  And I figured the black would help tie in the existing ceiling light and the dining room light. And then I started shopping for them.  Good lord, Jesus, why are lights so expensive!!??  The lowest price point is $100 buckeroos.  And I needed THREE of them.  Gad.  I did find an awesome one at Pottery Barn, on sale for $79 (it's picture number 5 above - there are three different shapes to choose from).  But I was still having a hard time justifying spending that much.  I kept thinking of all the other things I could spend the money on if it wasn't all blown on the lighting.

Then, on Sunday, we ran to Ikea to get the end panel we needed and the knobs we were short.  And there it was.  My light.  On sale for $19.99.  Are you kidding me?  Three for less than the price of one, of any of the others I was considering?  Sold.

When we got home, I Googled images of it, 'cause I wanted to see it in other people's lives.  I know, I'm weird, but that's how my brain works.  I want justification of how awesome it is.  I want to see what type of decor other people are using it in.  I think the coolest photos I found are of them installed in what looks to be a coffee shop.

Lights

The light is called the Hektar Pendant and it comes in two different sizes.
The big one is HUUUUGE and would be amazing installed somewhere that would allow it.
In our case, we went with the small version.
So far, we were only able to get the one over the sink installed, but here it is, in all its glory.

I'm excited to hang the other two.  Hopefully this weekend.
In other kitchen news, we got the trim piece that hides the under-cabinet lighting installed on one more cabinet.

We picked up the lights that will go there when we were at Ikea, also on sale.
Woot, woot.
And I finally got my cookbooks unpacked.

That's all I've got this time.
I've got a humdinger of a cold and am really wishing I could call in sick.

  6. Good choice Mindy? Lucky you finding the fixture at such a good price. You may be glad to not have all glass to keep clean. I put a mini chandi in my bathroom and it's a dust magnet! I hope your cold clears up quickly. I had a sinus thing for almost two weeks. Liz (sitwithmeinmygarden) :-)

  8. Oh heck yeah! Love a good deal. I have never understood why lighting has to be so fricken expensive.

  9. I see you're taking your time with this project, eh? That's cool. While there are others who want their projects done as soon as possible, there are those who want to savor every step and really think about what they want to add in their kitchen. I can't wait to see how your kitchen will turn out. Please keep us updated!
